Dr. Thomas Beavers

BIO OF DR. THOMAS BEAVERS

Dr. Thomas Beavers was born in Birmingham, Alabama, and is a graduate of Minor High School.  He received his BS degree in Biology from Kentucky State University, a rival HBCU institution, where he lettered 4 years in basketball and was named Mr. KSU.  He earned his Master of Divinity and Doctor (Doctorate) of Ministry from Beeson Divinity School of Samford University.  Succeeding his grandfather, Rev. Dr. Tommy Chappell’s 35-year tenure as church pastor, he presently serves as the Senior Pastor of New Rising Star Church, affectionately known as “THE STAR” in the Eastlake community of Birmingham, AL, were planted.  In 2022, under his leadership two other church campuses, The Star, Pell City, and The Star, Sylacauga, were planted. As servant leader senior pastor, Dr. Beavers’ ministry goal is twofold: to preach the gospel for the purpose of enlarging Heaven and to develop people in the community so that they may have access to a better quality of life on earth. With this in mind, he focuses on evangelism, education, financial literacy, workforce development, housing, and recreation.

Pastor Beavers is an adjunct professor of Black Church Studies (for which he is the brainchild and curriculum developer) at Grace School of Theology in Woodlands, Texas. He serves as Pastors and Ministers Director of the national pastoral organization, The Ambassadors Assembly Network.  He is also the author of the book, The Fight of My Life—Born to Win.  He has also authored several eBooks that can be downloaded from the church’s website.  

He serves on several boards:  The NRS Community Development Federal Credit Union, in keeping with his goal of promoting financial literacy; and The New Rising Star Community Support Corporation, advancing his goal of education, housing, and workforce development. In furtherance of the education mission, the corporation is the administrator of the Peggy Wynn Learning Center, which includes two 4-year pre-k classrooms. His past board affiliations include REV Birmingham, Work Faith Birmingham, and Christ Health Center.  In addition, Dr. Beavers is a motivational speaker who is sought to speak throughout the country. 

Dr. Beavers' greatest interest beyond spreading the gospel is his family. He is married to Candice Beavers and together they have eight children and four grandchildren.
